The Saving Siva Project aims to preserve and revitalize Samoa’s traditional Siva (dances) and environmental songs that are at risk of being lost due to climate-induced displacement. The project will record and digitize six traditional performances from coastal villages, creating an accessible digital archive hosted on Coconet TV. It will also explore Siva Samoa as a form of cultural therapy for coastal youth experiencing eco-anxiety, in collaboration with the Mental Health Unit of Moto’otua Hospital. Through these efforts, the project strengthens cultural resilience, mental well-being, and intergenerational knowledge transfer within climate-affected Samoan communities.
